Difference between Campsite and Holiday Park

Are you planning to camp your way around the New Zealand? Then, you may have heard of Campsite and Holiday park. They are where you can pitch a tent or park your campervan. But apart from this, they are actually kinda different. So, let's check it out.

When talking about camping, you first need to know what kind of campervan you've got. If you've got a certified self-contained campervan, you can go on freedom camping, just camp wherever your want! However, if you don't, you may still camp in a campsite or holiday park.

Facilities - Campsite

Campsite/ Elements Rentals

There are more than 200 campsites managed by Department of Conservation throughout the New Zealand, which are categorised as:

  • Serviced campsites

  • Scenic and Standard campsites

  • Basic campsite

  • Backcountry campsites

  • Great Walk campsites

Among the campsites, serviced campsites will provide the most wide range of facilities and services, which include: flush toilets, tap water, kitchen, hot showers and rubbish collection, you may even find the laundry facilities there. And on the other hand, basic campsites will provide the most limited facilities and services, where you may only be able to find the basic toilets and water.

Facilities - Holiday park

When comparing to the campsites, holiday parks are offering more facilities and options.

As for communal facilities, you will find the kitchen, toilets, showers, laundry rooms, dump stations. And you may even be able to find the Wifi, cafe, gym room or barbecue area there. For the accommodation options, the holiday parks generally provide non-powered sites, powered sites, motels and ensuite units for you to choose from.

Price

Honestly, if you use the price to be the only determining factor, campsites will definitely be the outcome. It is possible for you to find a campsite which cost you zero dollar to stay. However, if you are looking for the better, the more facilities, holiday park will then be the one that fit you most.
